Builders Exchange of Kentucky is celebrating 97 years of continuous operations and service to the construction industry.

In the spring of 1927, a group of approximately twenty subcontractors held a dinner meeting at the historic Mayflower building in Louisville. Those present at that meeting decided to form an organization of specialty contractors in the Louisville area.

The original headquarters was in the since demolished Board of Trade Building at Third and Main. It was not an easy task for the organization to survive the first year. Money ran out before the first newsletter could be published. Special assessments and revenues generated from members were needed to keep the organization functioning. The original plan room had one table and was no larger than a sizeable closet.

By 2010, BXKY had two plan rooms in Louisville and Lexington with over 25 tables before construction reports fully migrated to the online platform used today.

97 years later, Builders Exchange of Kentucky is a full-service construction trade association offering a variety of premium services and programs to our membership, including Kentucky’s only locally staffed planroom.
